What do I need to do to watch High Quality games for free?

What kind of quality can I expect with games broadcasted in High Quality?

TELUS is proud to offer QMJHL hockey fans a High Quality feed (up to 1 Mbits/s) for as little as $3.95 per game (limited time offer), which will produce a noticeably better quality image. Plus, you will be able to transfer the feed directly to your TV (required cables sold separately)! As an example, the current free webcasting feed is using an encoding of 300 kbit/s.

An example of the quality of the new HQ feed can be seen by clicking here.

Do I have to use Windows Media Player to view the QMJHL Video?

Yes. Windows Media Player is the only player option available to view the QMJHL Video. Windows users may watch video using versions 9, 10 or 11. Mac users may watch video using version 9 for Mac OS X.

For optimal performance we recommend that you download the latest player. The latest Windows Media Player can be obtained from the Microsoft Download Center. You can also upgrade to the most recent version of Windows Media Player at any time. Open the Windows Media Player application and select "Check for Players Updates…" from the Help menu (Mac users: select "Check for Player Upgrade" from the Help menu.)

My popup blocker won't let me watch  the QMJHL Videos. How can I fix that?

Pop-up blockers may prevent the video player from opening. Setting your pop-up blocker to allow pop-ups will fix this problem. Please see your pop-up blocker's help section for more information. Many popup blockers can by modified via a "settings," "options," or "block/allow" button.

I am hearing sound but not seeing any video. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

There are many causes linked to this issue. Here are resolutions to solve this issue:

  1. Some computers cannot display video unless they are in 24 or 32-bit color mode. To validate if you are in this mode, right-click on your “Desktop” and select “Properties”. Then click the “Settings” tab. There should be a box near the lower-right which says “Color Quality”. From the dropdown menu, make sure either 24-bit (high color) or 32-bit (true color) is selected.
  2. You may not have the required version of Windows Media Player installed. To fix this, click on your “Start” menu and then select “Windows Update”. Finally, go through the Windows Update process and it should suggest a new Windows Media Player or Windows Media Player Codec for you to install.
  3. Reduce graphics acceleration hardware setting by following steps explained on Microsoft support website.

The video is sometimes displayed upside down and is colored green or orange. Why is that?

This is a known bug by Microsoft. To fix this issue, you'll need to follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have the latest release of Windows Media Player. You can download it here.
  2. Download the patch that addresses the problem. You can download the patch here.
  3. Reduce graphics acceleration hardware setting by following steps explained on Microsoft support website.

The video is appearing as a “slide show” but I hear the audio.

Your current bandwidth may not be sufficient to allow the video to completely stream. You must be using a high-speed internet connection. Alternatively, your computer may be tasked with doing too many other things along with the video streams. Try closing other programs that may be either accessing the internet (filesharing or messenger programs) or using your system resources.

The video is not playing and I do NOT see any error messages in the video window - only the "Loading" icon.

Some internet security programs installed on your computer may block the required scripts from running QMJHL games on myTELUS.

To solve this issue with Internet Explorer, please add qmjhl.mytelus.com to your “Trusted Sites” by choosing “Tools” on your navigation menu. Then click on “Internet Options” and select “Security” tab. Finally, click on “Trusted Sites” and add qmjhl.mytelus.com in your list.

Why do video clips sometimes stop or pause?

The most common cause of a pause or stop is Internet traffic congestion. If this problem persists, try closing the player, then re-launch it.

What about firewalls?

Some corporate networks and Internet Service Providers block video transmissions. If you cannot see video clips (even though your system meets the system requirements noted above), you may want to contact your Internet Service Provider or Network Administrator to see whether a security firewall is blocking video transmission.
